This single level home was not intended to be a duplex. It was originally a stand alone house which was later split in half, leaving this residence with an awkward Kitchen/Living/Dining space.
The kitchen was small with no pantry.
The dining room, even smaller, had no room to pull a chair.
And… you guessed it, the living zone was cramped too.
The problem with the space was that it was taken up by a U-Shape kitchen layout that dominated the small living zone.

Original U-Shape Kitchen
We removed the old kitchen and replaced it with an L-shape kitchen that featured a bench that seamlessly continued into the living zone, creating compact media storage zone.

This completely opened up the space, allowing significantly more room for a dining table and couch. For a small space, it now packs a significant punch in the practicality department.

New L-Shape Kitchen provides enough space for large dining table.

Integrated media eliminates need for TV cabinet and provides additional storage.
We also designed a unique outdoor covered deck where we re-used the old kitchen from inside.

New External Covered Deck uses old kitchen for outdoor bbq kitchen
